In 2002 the privatisation of the enterprise was initiated, and since 26th of June 2002 we have been a private company “Rehabilitation centre Krimulda” Ltd.
On the 10th of October 1998 a non-profit organization, state-owned enterprise (SOE) “Rehabilitation Hospital Krimulda” was registered, which was followed by a considerable reduction of personnel.
In 1995, due to the changes in the State’s commissions the Rehabilitation hospital “Krimulda”, offered 36 beds under the State commission.
In 1994 the National rehabilitation centre “Vaivari” was founded, which also comprised Rehabilitation hospital “Krimulda” with 140 beds.
In 1992, due to the reorganization of the children’s sanatoria network, 160 beds were available in the Rehabilitation hospital “Krimulda” for children with orthopaedic diseases, post-traumatic syndromes and osteomelitis in its remission phase.
The “Krimulda” Sanatorium has a profile all of its own – since 1952 it has been the only place where patients with hipbone blade injuries – the so-called Legg-Calve-Pertess disease were treated.
Those children are treated for a conservative 2-2.5 year long duration. We have completely cured 84% of children.
After 1st of July 1992 the sanatorium changed its profile to the sanatorium for children with orthopaedic afflictions and nervous system disorders for the age-range of 3-18 years.
Since 1948 a comprehensive nine-year school with Latvian and Russian tuition has been conducted in the premises. Since 1997 teachers’ salaries have been financed by the Ministry of Education.
Till 1991 the institution functioned as a TB sanatorium with 2 sections: section I treated patients with bone diseases and section II handled patients of pre-school age with active TB.
In the summer of 1922 the Latvian Red Cross under the guidance of professor Jankovskis established the first State owned bone TB sanatorium which offered 200 beds in 1928, after the second floor was built.
